Fun will save us all

December 29th, 2016
Fun is joy's baby brother, and they go around together a lot. Let's look for them in 2017, let's aid and abet them, let's have all the fun we can making the good things happen even if they happen in the dark. Because as George Michael (who knew how to rock the Ray-Bans) taught us, you've got to have faith. Happy New Year! lieder-kathe-sunglasses Photo courtesy Rick Lieder.

Christopher Wild is done!

c-wild-mood-board The mood board above my desk has been a map and a star throughout the writing of this novel, and now Christopher Wild is finished! What a ride, spending these months in close proximity to Marlowe's life, work, and sensibility . . . My 18th book, but this one is special. Writing about a writer - and a genius - takes some extra effort, and brings a different manner of joy. The book will be released in 2017, and the trade edition is available for preorder now.

Time to go to school

November 11th, 2016
night-school-rah   "In a dark time," Roethke says, "the eye begins to see." Artists of all disciplines have a responsibility to their art, whatever form it takes, to see without flinching and to tell truly what is seen. It is my privilege as an artist and collaborator to be working with Marlowe's words and my immensely talented creative team, to present NIGHT SCHOOL the day after Inauguration Day, 2017. Time to learn what our time teaches us.

Playing together in the dark

lieder-alice-1010149vs lieder-bosch-ben_500 lieder-heights_18041518 lieder-29s091421   Collaboration is a tricky, alchemical thing: when it works, it works immediately, effortlessly, gleefully, thoughtfully. When it doesn't  . . .  It really doesn't. Working on NIGHT SCHOOL with Rena Hopkins, Ben Willis, Rachael Ahn Harbert, and Marianne Brass - this collaboration works, the mind enacted in the physical world, eyes ears muscles brain, making the real even more real. It's a lab, it's a poem, it's a playground. And we learn from one another, so for us it's night school, too.
